Support Our Troops &mbsp;|&mbsp; The Downtowners Fancy Brigade  |  A Proud Participant of Philadelphia's Mummers Day Parade

The Downtowners are proud of all our military men and women who are
risking their lives fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Lest we forget; Our military fighting men and women are still working and fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq. They are still in great peril every day and lack the comforts and security they are fighting to insure for us back here at home. We urge everyone to contact an agency in their locality to donate “Troop Packs” or money to send such things as personal care items or prepaid phone cards to these brave men and women. They need all the comforts we can provide to make life just a little bit easier. They also really need to know how much we care about them. Get involved! Don’t sit on the sidelines while others spout their crap! Attend "Support our Troops" rallies in your community. Sign petitions and send cards or e-mails to show them we are behind them 100%.

Here are some links to sites where you can help.

Reconnect America
Connect through the Military Channel’s Reconnect America web site to many worthy groups and organizations dedicated to supporting our men and women in uniform.

On this site You can choose a unit of troops stationed in harms way overseas and “adopt” them. They provide wish lists and contact info, and when you are ready to send your package over, you send it only to New York, then they forward from there. They also ask for letters and correspondence.

"It Is The Soldier!"

Close your eyes and picture in your mind the soldier at Valley Forge, as he holds his musket in his scarred and bloody hands.

He stands barefoot in the snow, starved from lack of food, wounded from months of battle and emotionally scarred from the eternity away from his family surrounded by nothing but death and the carnage of war.

He stands tough, with fire in his eyes and victory on his breath. He looks at us now in anger and disgust and tells us this…..

I gave you a birthright of freedom born in the Constitution and now your children graduate too illiterate to read it.

I fought in the snow barefoot to give you the freedom to vote and you stay at home because it rains.

I left my family destitute to give you the freedom of speech and you remain silent on critical issues, because it might be bad for business or is "politically incorrect".

I orphaned my children to give you a government to serve you and it has stolen democracy from the people.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who gives you the freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the poet, who gives you the freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives you the freedom to demonstrate.

It is the soldier who salutes the flag, serves the flag, whose coffin is draped with the flag, and through his ultimate sacrifice, gives the protester the freedom to burn the flag!!!

It is the soldier, and it will always be the soldier!

"Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. Amen."
